Forest School at Goldstone
We are very fortunate here at Goldstone to have extensive school grounds and a dedicated woodland area where we can run Forest Schools throughout the school year. Forest School is an inspirational concept providing learning opportunities through practical activities in an outdoor environment. Our children can enjoy the freedom to explore the natural world in all seasons and weather, work with tools, build fires and cook as well as developing their skills. Forest School is led by Vanessa Goldsmith from BHISS (Brighton and Hove Inclusion Support Service) who is also a trained first aider. She is also supported by at least one, but mostly two adults of the Goldstone team. Forest School embraces an approach of nurturing, supporting and developing the self-esteem of the participants. It is an ideal environment in which to develop innovation, risk taking, creativity and team work. To allow the pupils to participate fully we ask that they bring in appropriate clothes to change in to and clothes that they don’t mind getting mucky! We are out in all weathers so the correct clothing is essential. We can also help source items such as Wellingtons or water proof boots, long trousers, long sleeves jumpers and waterproof jackets if need be.
