PE Policy
Intent
At Goldstone we aim to inspire all children to develop a love of physical activity and sport. Through good physical education, whole school values and a whole child approach, we aim to nurture confident, resilient children who will strive for their personal best. We listen to our children’s wants and needs and provide them with a range of active experiences and clubs. We want to aid our children in obtaining the values and skills to celebrate and respect the success of others, as well as modestly celebrating their own successes. We aim to ensure that our delivery of physical education allows all children to have the skills and mind-set to leave primary school with the capabilities to be successful in their sporting challenges and active lifestyles at secondary school and beyond. We strive to educate both our children and families to develop a greater understanding on how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices. We are dedicated to ensuring healthy minds, as well as bodies and will continue to support our children's well-being. We have strong links with local clubs and partnerships within our community to ensure the children and families receive the support and knowledge they need.
Implementation
· In line with the National Curriculum, children will learn a range of sports and will re-visit key areas such as dance, gymnastics and athletics each year.
· PE will be taught for an hour and a half a week in KS1 and for two hours a week in KS2. KS1/2 pupils will learn two topics each half term which will allow them to cover 12 sports each academic Year. EYFS pupils will cover a total of 6 topics, one each half term.
· We apply Rosenshine’s principles to our teaching of PE.
· We seek opportunities to enhance our curriculum through school trips and visitors to the school. We provide opportunities for the children take part in sport externally in both competitive and non-competitive ways.
· We teach lessons which allow children of all abilities to access and enjoy their learning; scaffolding where needed and challenging where appropriate.
· We assess using our knowledge organisers, which are based on the different skills and knowledge required to achieve in each sport taught.
